In 2003, when I was 19, I was involved in a near-fatal road accident and sustained a severe brain injury. I woke up with no memories and for an entire decade, nothing came back.

Then, on the eve of my 30th birthday, I heard an ’80s song I hadn’t heard since before the accident — The Whole Of The Moon by The Waterboys — and suddenly I was transported. My first childhood flashbacks.

Over the years, fragments of memories slowly returned through music, until finally, as I turned 40, one ’90s song — Just Another Day by Jon Secada — shifted something in my brain, and I began remembering huge parts of the first 20 years of my life again.

It’s been emotional, overwhelming, and joyful, reconnecting with people I’d lost, memories I thought were gone forever, and the beginnings of my story with family and friends. It made me realise just how powerful music can be in transporting us back to moments we thought had disappeared.

Since achieving my childhood dream of becoming an author, I’ve been lucky enough to meet so many fascinating people from the world of entertainment, and it turns out we all love reminiscing about the songs, moments and memories that shaped us.

So I thought: why not invite everyone into the conversation?

And Flashback Tracks was born.

Each week, I’m joined by a different well-known guest from the worlds of TV, comedy, literature, film, music and theatre as we take their chosen song, hit rewind, and explore the past together.

I’ll see you in the next episode and I can’t wait to hear from YOU on our social channels about your own flashback tracks and the special memories they bring back for you.
